Clippad

Clippad Privacy Policy

Effective date: 24 October 2026

Clippad is a Chrome extension made by Emmanuel Shola. It lets you select text on a web page, give it a colour, tags, and a note, and find it again later from a small panel on the page (or Chrome's side panel, if you choose it). This policy explains what Clippad stores, where it stores it, and what it never does.

What Clippad stores

Clippad stores only what you clip. For each clip it keeps:

In Google Sheets, a clip is the selected cell's content and its address (for example Sheet1!C12), read from the cell address box and the formula bar; nothing else in the spreadsheet is read.

It also keeps your settings: the names you give the four colours (the legend), the names you give to pages, the theme (system, light or dark), the colour you used last, how Clippad opens (floating panel or side panel), the sites where you hid the floating button, and where you left the button. Hiding a site only hides the button and the colour bar; your highlights there still show.

Clippad only works on normal web pages (http and https). It never touches Chrome's own pages (such as the New Tab page or settings) or other extensions' pages.

What Clippad reads but does not store

When a page loads, Clippad reads the page's visible text once, in memory, to draw any highlights you have on it. On a page where you have clips, it reads the text again when the page changes, so your highlights stay in the right place. This text is used on the spot; it is never stored and never sent anywhere.

Nothing is stored unless you select text and choose a colour or the note button. Clippad does not record your browsing.

Where the data is stored

Everything is stored on your own computer, inside your Chrome profile (the browser's local storage for this extension). Clippad makes no network connections: it does not send anything to us or to anyone else. There is no account, no sign-in, and no analytics or tracking.

How the data is used

Only to show you your own clips inside the Clippad panel (on the page or beside it) and on the pages they came from: to list them, search and filter them, add up the ones that are numbers, and export them when you ask.

What Clippad never does

How to delete your data

Permissions Clippad asks for, and why

Exports

Markdown and CSV exports are files created on your computer when you ask for them. They are yours; Clippad does not keep a copy or send them anywhere.

Changes to this policy

If a future version changes what Clippad stores, this policy will be updated first and the effective date will change.
